Celebrating NZ Cheese Month: In-store events

Every October, the New Zealand Specialist Cheesemakers Association (NZSCA) members put on events and tastings to showcase some of New Zealand’s finest cheeses, and of course the cheesemakers themselves.

Farro will be hosting a number of in-store tastings, meet and greets as well as having some of the incredible cheeses on special! See what’s on below and be sure to come into store. 

Meet the cheesemaker Zev Kaka-Holtz from Grinning Gecko

Cheesemaker Zev Kaka-Holtz from Grinning Gecko will be in our Grey Lynn Store tasting the decadently creamy and award-winning Kau Piro, a soft washed rind cheese. Like all Grinning Gecko Cheeses Kau Piro is handmade on the day of milking, from certified organic milk.  Kau Piro received a gold medal at the 2016 NZ Champion of Cheese Awards and more recently won the bronze award for its cheesemaker Zev Kaka-Holtz at the UK International Cheese and Dairy Awards 2018.

Cheese and Wine Masterclass presented by Over the Moon & Man O’ War Wine

Come and celebrate the finest of cheesemakers at a fabulous Master Class. This is your chance to learn (and taste) about all things cheese from expert Sue Arthur, the owner of Over the Moon Cheese. To top it off,  they’ll be matched with delicious Man O’ War wines!

Whitestone Cheese will be in-store talking their Shenley Station Blue cheese, an original New Zealand blue cheese with subtle raw mushroom flavour notes and smooth, sticky texture.

Talk with Daniel Shields – owner of Barrys Bay cheese 

Daniel Shields – the owner of Barrys Bay Cheese, will be taking people through the different flavour profiles of his cheeses and the techniques involved with creating the flavours and textures their cheeses are renowned for. Daniel will be bringing one of their 36kg cloth bound cheddars as a centre-piece to these talks.

Meet Amanda Goodman – Owner/Cheesemaker at the Drunken Nanny 

Come in to store and meet Amanda Goodman, owner and cheesemaker of the Drunken Nanny who will be tasting her award-winning goat cheese which is handcrafted in Martinborough, New Zealand.
